So You Have a Conflict – How Mediation Can Help
CJAM mediators are here to guide you through resolving a disagreement or conflict with care and professionalism. Mediation is a collaborative process that helps everyone involved communicate effectively, express their concerns and needs, explore possible solutions, and work toward a mutually agreeable outcome. Once an agreement is reached, it will be documented clearly to ensure mutual understanding.

Unlike judges or arbitrators, mediators do not make decisions, determine right or wrong, or suggest specific solutions. Instead, they facilitate productive conversations, empowering you to find the resolution that works best for everyone involved. Mediation relies on the voluntary participation and good faith efforts of all parties, making it a constructive and respectful way to address conflicts.
What to expect
Who are our Mediators?
CJAM mediators are highly trained and bring valuable experience in effective mediation techniques. As members of the community, they offer a relatable, impartial perspective, often enhanced by their own professional expertise. While our mediators do not provide legal advice, their focus is on facilitating meaningful conversations and helping you find the best solutions for your situation.
Process
The mediation process is entirely voluntary, ensuring both parties are willing participants. It’s designed to foster open communication and focus on collaborative problem-solving. The process begins with an introduction from the mediators, followed by uninterrupted statements where each of you can share what brought you to mediation and your hopes for resolution. Together, with the mediators’ guidance, you’ll outline key topics to discuss and work towards solutions through facilitated negotiation. Any agreements reached will be clearly documented by the mediators, helping to bring clarity and closure to the process.
Good Faith
In mediation, you’ll be encouraged to participate in good faith, creating an environment of respect and collaboration. This involves actively listening to the other party, approaching solutions with an open mind, and genuinely working toward a solution. You’ll also be asked to thoughtfully consider all proposals made during the process, ensuring a fair and productive path to resolution.
Legal Advice
Neither the staff at CJAM nor the mediators involved in your case are able to provide legal advice. If you require legal assistance before your mediation, we strongly encourage you to seek the necessary support or information to assist you in your negotiations.
